get a yard job for $10
Half an hour of weeding, alley clearing, or hauling junk to the curb. Ten dollars, ten neighbors, and then the offer’s done.
Why on earth would I do it that cheap?
Because getting a one-person business off the ground is genuinely hard, and I’m at the part where nobody has heard of me yet. You can’t hire someone you’ve never heard of, and you certainly can’t hire someone with nothing to show. So this is me solving that the only way I know how, which is by doing the work and letting it speak.
Ten dollars isn’t my rate. Normal small yard jobs run $30–50, and they will again once these ten are done. I’d just rather spend the first ten on people who live near me than on advertising.
If I do a decent job and you feel like saying so publicly afterwards, that would help me more than the money would. Entirely up to you though, and the ten dollars stands either way.
What ten dollars gets you
About half an hour of honest work, tools and bags included.
Weeding
A bed, a fence line, the cracks in the walk, that corner that's gotten away from you.
Clearing the alley
Overgrowth and junk cut back and hauled to the curb so you can actually get down it.
Trash and debris pickup
Blown-in litter, storm debris, the pile behind the shed. Bagged and moved to the curb.
About 30 minutes
It’s a half-hour job, not a half-day one. If what you need is bigger, I’ll tell you honestly and quote it normally — no hard feelings either way.
Immediate neighborhood
Forest Hill, Westover Hills, Woodland Heights and the streets right around them. I’m on a bike, so distance is the one thing I can’t be generous about.
Not included
Tree work above head height, anything with a chainsaw, hauling to the dump, or full lawn care. There are pros for that and I’ll happily point you at one.
And who’s turning up
Me. I’m Johanna, I’m in my fifties, and I’ve owned the same old Southside house for thirteen years. I spent my career in IT and I’m now building a small neighborhood business around the things I’m actually good at, which includes being reliable and turning up when I said I would.
One person, arriving by e-bike, who lives close enough that doing a bad job would be socially inconvenient for years.
