About

About Johanna

I've worked in IT my whole life. I love coding, but I've become an early adopter of a different kind — I'm one of the first software engineers to realize that pure coding skill is being rapidly commoditized by AI. While many in my field are waiting to see what happens, I've decided to pivot.

I've owned an old house on the Southside of Richmond for thirteen years. During that time, I've accumulated a serious collection of tools and taught myself how to fix, build, and maintain almost everything. I see myself as “not as capable as a professional handyman, but able to help out with small, everyday challenges.” I enjoy working on houses and every DIY project is an exciting learning experience... and gets me away from the computer for a while.

I'm also building my own gig platform from scratch. The major corporate platforms (such as care.com and TaskRabbit) are often disempowering for the people doing the work and offer very little customization. More about the app →

What a Visit Can Look Like

A few illustrative examples of the kind of help I offer — not paid testimonials, just an honest picture of the work, from quick everyday fixes to bigger projects.

Everyday help
Your mom is in her 80s and lives alone on the Southside. I stop by for a low-key visit — just $30 — and help with whatever's piled up: an ant infestation, a printer that won't cooperate, changing bedsheets, a quick bathroom and kitchen clean. The kind of visit that takes a real weight off the family.

Light DIY & practical help
Moving out of your place, it's the last day, and you're worried about losing the deposit? I can come on short notice, help finish packing, patch the holes in the walls, and help make it look spick and span — the difference between losing the deposit and getting every dollar back.

Coding & coaching
You worked on computers in the 1990s and want to get back into it? As someone who worked on this stuff back then too, I can catch you up on all the changes since. We brainstorm, build, and have a blast doing it — all the way through to getting a finished app into the Google Play store.
